Minecraft name tag generator

The name that floats above a player, with the game's color codes, as a transparent PNG for your thumbnail or your edit.

Name

Tap a color or a format and it applies to the whole name; select part of it and only that part changes. You can also type the game's codes (&c, &l, &n…) or paste one that uses §.

Animation

Pick one and it plays in the preview. You can download it as a transparent MOV or an MP4; the PNG is still the finished text.

Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Studios; CreativeStar is not affiliated with it. The typeface is Minecraftia, the classic stand-in for the game's font.

The name that floats above a player

This is the tag shown above players and over mobs wearing a name tag. It uses the same codes as the game, so you can paste the rank you already have on your server and it looks exactly like it does in-game.

Colour and formatting codes

All 16 colours work (&0 to &f), plus the formats: &l bold, &o italic, &n underline, &m strikethrough and &r to reset. You can also paste text that already uses §.

Transparent PNG and animation

The dark box behind is optional and everything else comes out transparent, so it sits on your footage with no cutting out. Pick an animation and export a MOV with alpha or an MP4.

Frequently asked questions

The same ones as the game: &0 to &f for the 16 colors, &l bold, &o italic, &n underline, &m strikethrough and &r to start over. Text that uses § works too.

Yes. The dark box behind the name is optional, and everything outside the nametag is transparent, so you can drop it over your video or thumbnail without cropping.

Yes. Pick an animation and download the MOV: it's a QuickTime file with an alpha channel, so it sits on top of your video in Premiere, After Effects, DaVinci or Final Cut with no background to remove. Record it cropped to the text or on a 1920 × 1080, 1080 × 1920, 1080 × 1080 or 4K canvas. If you'd rather have an MP4, it comes on a chroma, black or white background.

Vanilla is the game's exact 16 colors. Pastel is that same table softened: over a video it reads better and is easier on the eyes.

It's Minecraftia, the pixel typeface the community uses to match the game. It only has one weight, so bold and italic are simulated by the browser, just like Minecraft does with its own font.
